The Ponaganset boys’ basketball team has been seeded 3rd in the division III state playoffs.  Ponaganset finished with a 15-3 record, behind Toll Gate who finished 18-0 the only undefeated team in Rhode Island league play this year, and even with Mt. Hope who beat the Chieftains in double overtime earlier this year.

The boys will play Central Falls on Tuesday February 26 at 6:00 pm.   This will mark the first time in over ten years that the boys team has hosted a playoff game.  Central Falls won it’s preliminary game versus Blackstone Valley Mayoral Preparatory Academy on Friday evening 62-55.  Ponaganset defeated the Warriors earlier this year 62-41 at a game played at the George Jaques Fieldhouse January 15th.  Steven DelSesto and Griffin Ferretti led the way with 21 and 16 points respectively.

Ponaganset hopes to continue on and move to the division III semifinals on Friday March 1st.  The team is also looking to earn a birth into the Statewide open playoffs. The top 16 teams by rank are invited to play at neutral sites around the state.  No Ponaganset boys team has ever been invited into the open tournament since it’s inception 9 years ago. The girls’ team was invited two years ago and lost a tight match up to eventual champion LaSalle Academy.
