It hasn’t been unnoticed that many new faculty members have joined the Ponaganset team throughout the past few years. I recently got the chance to sit down with a new teacher here at Ponaganset High School, Haileigh Gattinella. Miss. Gattinella is a first year teacher and currently works in the life skills room.

Overall, how are you enjoying PHS?

“I absolutely LOVE Ponaganset!”

Do you feel as that college has prepared you for this position

Yes, I graduated with 3 degrees in education and I felt as that I was very much prepared with what to do and how to do things. Though, I did have to research multiple different disabilities because their are such a large amount of them that college can’t teach you because their’s so many!”

What would you like to contribute to Ponaganset?

I’d like to continue raising awareness for inclusion and how it’s important for students in Special Education classes to be seen by other students as a part of their student body. I want to be sure that all the students in the school know the students in my classroom by name. My goal here at Ponaganset is to continue to make our Unified sports bigger and better every year!”

What is your teaching philosophy or mantra?

Leave a little sparkle wherever you go! My philosophy is to always leave a touch or impact on your students and community!”

What part of your job gives you joy?

The small successes they have everyday. I love seeing when kids are able to succeed or when something finally clicks and you’re able to see the smile on their face! No matter what is going on in my life they always put a smile on my face. They don’t let anything stop them from doing what they want to do. They never stop trying!”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

“I hope to still be in this classroom and to continue to be apart of the Ponaganset family. I’d like to watch my students grow into independent, wonderful men and women.”
