Playoffs dress rehearsal

Ponaganset faced the struggling 1-6 Hope High School football team Friday night. In all 3 years of watching and filming High School football games, I have never seen a team smaller than Hope with a miniscule roster of only 18 active athletes. The team just did not look like they wanted to be there, from the lackadaisical warmups and just the pure small size of the team, it was just sad to see. I had caught up with some Hope players at the end of the game and from multiple players they stated that they only had 7 players at their walkthrough Thursday night. Not even a full size offense and defense. But continuing to the game, it was over very quickly, with Ponaganset playing lockdown defense, only allowing 3 yards of total offense to Hope in the first half. Ponaganset also had a massive half, dropping 47 points and totaling over 100 yards of total offense. In the second half Ponaganset threw in the Junior Varsity team and Hope ended up scoring 6 against the Junior Varsity team. JV could not get anything going on offense, just a play here and there but nothing major. Final Score: 47-6 Ponaganset, giving the team a 7-1 regular season record. This will give the team good momentum heading into the playoffs where their first game will be against Tiverton at Cumberland High School on Saturday, 11/10 at 3:30 pm.

This was also Ponaganset’s senior night so here is a special shout out to all of the Seniors playing for the team this season: Jeremy Stone, Nolan Jolicoeur, Theo Mihailides, Zach Macleod, Pat Shields, Evan Calise, Nick Lancia, Adam Tabares, Eric Rauso, Joshua Franco, Griffin Ferretti, Matt Ferreira, and the late Matthew Alsfeld who would have been a Senior this season.
