Amelia Campanella dropped the first set, survived a tiebreaker in the second before closing the third at No. 1 singles, picking up the clinching point for No. 3 Ponaganset in a 4-2 win over No. 7 Portsmouth in the Division II semifinals, sending the Chieftains to Slater Park for the D-II title match against Middletown.
Julia Robertson won in straight sets at No. 4 singles for Ponaganset, which also got wins at No. 1 doubles by Emily Harris and Emaly Akkaoui, as well as a win at No. 2 doubles by Kate Mooney and Anna Tammaro.
It will be Ponaganset’s first title match since beating Scituate for the 2011 Division III title. The Chieftains last played a D-II title match in 1998 and have never won a D-II title.
Marielle Chrupcala and Daniel Mazur earned the two points for Portsmouth, winning at Nos. 2 and 3 singles.
