Struggle from the Start

First play of the game, ball is sitting on Ponaganset’s 25, Zach Silvaggio is under center with Evan Calisle in the back field, the ball is snapped and a miscued pitch to Evan turns into a fumble with a recovery by North Smithfield’s defensive line. This set the tone for the rest of the game for Ponaganset which turned a North Smithfield onslaught and Ponaganset the victim.

The North Smithfield rushing attack and defensive stops carried them to a monstrous 37-16 victory Friday Night. Miscued snaps and an astounding 12 penalties plagued Ponaganset throughout the game. North Smithfield rushing attack totaled over 200 yards on the ground and Ponaganset could not keep up with the quick and elusive moves by North Smithfields ground attack.

There were some bright spots within this poor game for Ponaganset though, with Jeremy Stone scoring 2 rushing touchdowns in the game and Ponaganset’s pass defense held North Smithfields air attack in check.

This game secured North Smithfield the 1 seed for the playoffs setting up Ponaganset vs. Tiverton round 2 at Ponaganset. Ponaganset’s next game will be against a struggling Hope team on November 2nd at home.
